Pundit issues emphatic claim on Marc Roca replacing Kalvin Phillips at Leeds United

Marc Roca will not be a replacement for Kalvin Phillips if he joins Leeds United this summer.

That’s according to former Whites stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Jesse Marsch’s hunt for new players.

On Thursday (9 June) The Athletic reported Leeds have turned their attention to signing Bayern Munich’s Marc Roca.

Leeds United

The report claims the 25-year-old, who has three years remaining on his current deal, is available for £10million

Roca is a central midfielder who Leeds want to provide competition for Kalvin Phillips.

Kenny insists Roca may not be a replacement for Phillips as some fans may fear.

“Having no midfielders nearly cost them Premier League survival,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They had to stock up on players, they have to strengthen that squad.

“Whether they are looking to sign him as a replacement for Phillips or just as competition, they need bodies.

“They need strength and depth. They don’t want to find themselves in a relegation battle again, especially after their first season back in the Premier League.

“We will see what happens with Phillips and whether this guy will be a replacement.

“It could be stockpiling because that is what that squad needs.”

Roca only made 13 appearances for Bayern Munich last season.

However, he only accrued 44 minutes of action in 4 Champions League appearances.
