Pundit issues emphatic Erling Haaland verdict after Man City reveal – ‘look at Jack Grealish’
Alan Hutton is adamant Erling Haaland will adapt to a new style of play at Man City.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa striker said City aren’t used to playing with a “target man” up front.
Pep Guardiola’s side beat Bournemouth 4-0 on Saturday (13 August).
As revealed by OptaJoe (13 August), Haaland had just eight touches against the Cherries.
The Norway international made two passes during the 72 minutes he was on the pitch.
When asked if he was surprised by Haaland’s lack of involvement, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think there’s going to be games where this will happen.
“Manchester City play a particular type of football where it is kind of dominant in possession, they don’t really hit up to a target man and play off him. It’s a different brand of football so there’s going to be times where he’s going to have to be patient, try and cut the channels.
“His style might have to change a little bit as well. At the end of the day, he’s a goalscorer. These sort of things I don’t think will phase him, he’ll take it all in his stride. He’s already scored goals, he’s proved that to everybody already. So I don’t really see a problem.

“Plus he needs to bed in, you look at the likes of Jack Grealish, it took him time to get into that way of playing football.
“He’s an intelligent player I’m sure he will but I think it will be a great signing.“
