Pundit issues emphatic Jadon Sancho verdict after what he’s seen at Man United

Noel Whelan has claimed Jadon Sancho is now “doing his part” at Man United after adjusting to the Premier League.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 22-year-old suffered as a result of the chaos at Old Trafford last season.

Sancho has started each of Man United’s six Premier League games thus far in the new campaign.

The England international has already scored twice – after managing just five goals in 38 outings during the 2021-22 season.

Man United paid Borussia Dortmund a reported £73million fee last summer (2021) after his impressive form in Germany.

The midfielder, who has racked up 23 Three Lions caps, was dropped by Gareth Southgate for England’s latest internationals in June.

Whelan insisted the Man United players are “buying into” Erik ten Hag’s philosophy after a troubled 2021-22 campaign.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “We’ve been waiting for this.

“My understanding is that Man United spent so many years trying to get him – then they did, and he’s had to spend time adjusting to the Premier League.

“It’s competitive – much more so than the Bundesliga – so maybe he needed a bit of time.

“The fact that the other players around him weren’t confident, there were managers coming and going, the players had no idea how to play – these things all worked against him.

“Now they’ve got a direction and a manager who is working hard – and the players are buying into it.

“Sancho is doing his part and stepping up to the plate. Even Rashford has upped his game.”
