Pundit issues emphatic Phil Foden claim as Man City close in on £62.4m deal
Noel Whelan has insisted no one deserves a new contract more than Phil Foden at Man City as he closes in on a bumper pay rise.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 22-year-old is the future of the Citizens alongside new recruits Erling Haaland and Kalvin Phillips.
According to the Daily Star (9 July), Foden is set to put pen to paper on a six-year contract extension worth £200,000-a-week – netting him a total £62.4million over the entire length of the deal.

The report claims the 16-time England international is currently earning £65,000-a-week on a contract which is set to expire in June 2024.
Foden netted 14 goals and 11 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions last season as Man City retained the Premier League.
Whelan insisted there is “always an end product” when the midfield star has the ball inside the final third.
“You can’t knock any deal for Foden,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“He’s one of the best starlets we have in England right now.
“When you see him play the game, wow. He’s so influential on the ball with his work rate and quality in the final third. I don’t think anyone on that side deserves a contract more than Foden.
“There’s always an end product with him. He is the longevity of Man City now, along with Kalvin Phillips and Erling Haaland.
“There’s a power shift now towards these younger players who are going to be the future for the club.”

Rodri has also pledged his future to Man City by signing a bumper contract extension.
Pep Guardiola’s side kick off their season in the Community Shield against Liverpool on 30 July.
