Pundit issues emphatic Tom Lawrence claim after what he’s seen at Rangers

Tom Lawrence could be a standout player for Rangers in the 2022-23 Premiership season.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Gers’ recent transfer business.

On Friday (8 July), Rangers announced the signing of Lawrence, 28, from Derby County.

He left the Rams at the end of the 2021-22 season, in which the club was relegated to League One following multiple point deductions.

Joe Aribo was confirmed to have left Rangers on 9 July with Sky Sports reporting the club will receive £6million up front with the deal worth £10million in total.

Kenny insists Lawrence can serve as a replacement for the recently-departed star.

“Yeah, you would think he is a bit of a like-for-like replacement,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It’s a good signing, he’s an experienced international. He has been at Derby for a little while and he has always been impressive in the Championship.

“I’m confident he will stand out in the Scottish Premiership. He has always been impressive when I have seen him.

“To get him for nothing as well, it’s great business. They must have beaten a few clubs to his signature so they have done really well.

“Like I say, he could be a standout player next season.”

Lawrence scored 11 goals in 38 championship appearances during the 2021-22 season.

He leaves Derby after making 185 outings in five seasons.
