Pundit issues emphatic verdict on Chelsea joining new European Super League after latest development
Frank McAvennie has insisted Chelsea owners would not risk joining the European Super League if the idea takes off.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said the competition could happen in a different form to the one originally proposed in April 2021.
According to the Financial Times (19 October), the new boss of the European Super League Bernd Reichart expects to relaunch the competition again within the next three years.

Reichart claimed the organisers are open to all suggestions and formats to try and get the competition up and running.
The new chief executive added that they want to “be prepared” for “fundamental change”.
In September, as quoted by Football.London, new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly refused to rule out potentially joining the European competition.
The American said he will “keep options alive” despite the backlash the initial proposal received from fans.
When asked if teams like the Blues would be interested in joining the competition if it goes ahead, McAvennie told Football Insider: “It is not going to happen.
“They might do it in another form, like a cup tie or something but they will not do it like a Super League.

“They will not take them away to a league where you can’t get promoted and you can’t get relegated. What a load of rubbish that is.
“They [Chelsea] saw what happened with [Roman] Abramovich, all the outcry, that is what they will get again. It is going to keep coming up but I do not think it will happen.“
