Pundit issues Everton signing claim amid ‘advanced talks’ takeover reveal

Alan Hutton has claimed that the takeover of Everton will “hamper” new signings.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Tottenham defender has insisted that Frank Lampard will want the deal completed as soon as possible.

This site revealed (27 June) that the American consortium seeking to purchase Everton were in advanced talks with the club over a deal.

According to the Telegraph (29 June), an agreement has been reached to purchase the Toffees before 21 July.

The group is fronted by former Man United and Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon.

When asked if he thought the takeover could prevent Everton from making signings this window, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think it will hamper it.

“I think when you know the club is up for sale, the current owners don’t necessarily want to spend money, they don’t want to be putting millions back into the club when they know a sale is round the corner.

That being said I think the new people are desperate to get in and help to develop the squad and put money in and make things happen.

So, of course it can hold it up. I think for everybody involved you want it to just be a quick thing that moves forward.

“These things take time though, we’re not talking about a £100 transaction here, we’re talking about millions and millions and all the cogs and pieces that go along with it, it can be difficult.

But for Frank and the team, he’ll want it to happen as soon as possible.”
