Pundit issues ‘frightening’ Man City verdict after source’s Phil Foden reveal
Frank McAvennie has claimed Phil Foden’s prospective new wages at Man City are “frightening”.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Foden is one of City’s best players and is deserving of a bumper new deal.
On 25 September, sources told this site that the 22-year-old is set to multiply his salary after finalising a deal worth around £250,000-a-week.
The increased wages will bring him closer in line with the best paid players at the club – Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne.
Foden has agreed a six-year contract, meaning the deal will be worth around £78million in total.
All parties are confident there are no issues and the deal will be formalised and announced soon.
When asked by Football Insider if the attacker was deserving of the pay hike, McAvennie said: “It’s absolutely frightening.
“It seems as though he has been about for years. He is one of these players that you think, ‘Oh my god, he is only 22 but he has been about for years.’
“He is still not one of the highest paid players there and let’s be honest ,he is one of their best players. £250k a week for a 22-year-old is not bad at all.“

Foden has made ten appearances for Man City so far this season across all competitions.
In those outings he has scored three goals and provided two assists.
