Pundit issues Gelhardt prediction after ‘brilliant’ Leeds reveal
Noel Whelan has branded Leeds United starlet Joe Gelhardt a “brilliant prospect” after his first Premier League goal against Chelsea.
The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 19-year-old “deserves loads of credit” after his recent performances.
Gelhardt grabbed his first Premier League goal for Leeds United on Saturday (11 December), equalising in the 83rd minute as the Yorkshire side fell to a last-gasp 3-2 defeat away at Chelsea.
As per MailOnline (12 December), the youngster is the first teenager to score a top-flight goal for the Whites since James Milner in 2004.
Whelan hailed Gelhardt, insisting the former Wigan striker is “going from strength to strength” at present.
“He deserves loads of credit,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“When he first came on against Wolves and drew the penalty to get us a draw – that was the first moment of brilliance.
“We saw him doing it over and over for the U23s and wondered when he was going to get that opportunity in the first team – and he’s not disappointed anyone since coming in.
“What a player he will be. He’s going from strength to strength right now. He showed so much character by coming off the bench into such a difficult game at Stamford Bridge.
“For him to bear that kind of responsibility at his age, get into that position, get across the man and show the composure with the finish – that’s testament to the belief he has in himself.
“He’s a brilliant prospect.”

Leeds United sit 15th in the Premier League, six points from danger after 16 games.
Gelhardt has netted seven goals in nine games in Premier League 2 competition this season.
In other news, a pundit has claimed ‘we know Leeds United have money’ as an unexpected January plan is revealed.
