Pundit issues ‘huge’ Aston Villa claim after source’s January reveal
Frank McAvennie has claimed it would be “great” business if Aston Villa can sign a “top striker” in January.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker insisted Villa are a “huge club” and can attract top talents.
On Thursday (10 November), sources told this site that Unai Emery has been given the green light to sign an A-list forward in January.
The new boss wants an upgrade on the likes of Emiliano Buendia, Philippe Coutinho, Leon Bailey and Bertrand Traore.
Emery is keen on recruiting a versatile attacker who can play anywhere across the front line.
Last month (27 October), this site revealed that Villa will back the new manager with a “huge” January kitty to bolster the squad.
McAvennie insisted the 51-year-old will be able to attract some top players.
“I think he is a great manager,” he told Football Insider.
“He is well-respected, well-renowned and plays the game the way it should be. I do not know if he complicates it too much.
“But they need to bring in somebody that can bang in the goals. Aston Villa is a huge club. People tend to forget that, they are absolutely huge. It would be a great piece of business if he brings in a top striker.“

Emery got off to a solid start as Villa boss with a 3-1 win over Man United last weekend (6 November).
However they were beaten 4-2 by the Manchester giants in the League Cup on Thursday (10 November) despite scoring the first goal of the game.
