Pundit issues ‘huge’ Harry Maguire verdict after Man United decision pre-Arsenal

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Man United manager Erik ten Hag for his “gutsy” team selection over the past few weeks.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England number one said Ten Hag, 52, deserves “huge credit” for dropping Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Red Devils have won their last three Premier League games after lost their opening two fixtures of the season.

Maguire started the defeats to Brighton and Brentford but was dropped for subsequent wins over Liverpool, Southampton and Leicester City.

Erik ten Hag has decided on Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as his preferred defensive partnership.

The pair have kept two clean sheets and conceded just one goal in their three outings together.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Erik ten Hag’s adjustments, Robinson said: “There was huge question marks after the first two performances, not just the results, but the attitude and application of the players.

“The manager has to take a large part of the blame for that. He also has to take great credit for the turnaround.
