Pundit issues ‘huge’ Newcastle United prediction after ‘brilliant’ St James’ Park update
Newcastle United have taken the first step towards expanding St James’ Park.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ owners’ plans.
Craig Hope reported on Wednesday (8 February), that Newcastle have bought Strawberry Place, the area of land located behind St James’ Park’s Gallowgate end.

Former owner Mike Ashley sold the land to private developers in 2019 but no development has taken place since the initial sale.
McManus insists this is the first step in expanding St James’ Park, a move that could be “huge” for the club.
“They are going to expand the stadium, they have to,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“There is such a demand for tickets and that demand is only going to go up as the club becomes more successful over the next few years.
“It could be huge for them. You get more fans in, that’s more revenue and if you add another 10,000 voices to that atmosphere, wow, you are talking about a serious atmosphere.
“It’s brilliant news for Newcastle, I bet the fans are delighted with that as well. Loads of clubs are trying to expand their stadiums.
“Liverpool are doing it now, Some clubs are building brand new stadiums, Everton, Tottenham, but I think the Newcastle owners have already said they aren’t going to build a new one.
“So this has to be the first step in expanding and that’s only good news for everyone at Newcastle.”

Newcastle are next in action against Bournemouth on Saturday (11 February).
The Magpies sit fourth in the Premier League.
