Pundit issues ‘incredible’ Liverpool claim after ‘crazy’ development

Alan Hutton has told Liverpool to get used to “crazy” fixture schedules if they want to compete at the highest level.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said it will be a challenge for the Reds to keep the squad fit.

Last season the Merseysiders ended the season having played 63 matches, every possible game they could have contested and have struggled with injuries as a result.

Jurgen Klopp’s side could be set to play as many as 38 games between now and June, all of which could be vital matches.

The German boss has been known to share his complaints about his side’s busy schedule.

Most recently in a press conference at the start of the season when his side featured in the Community Shield against Man City.

Hutton insisted the Reds need to get used to congested schedules if they want to be a top team.

They are going to have to get used to it, it is quite as simple as that,” he told Football Insider.

It is crazy nowadays. In years gone by you played maybe 30 or 35 games, now these guys are playing 60. It is incredible.

They always tend to go deep into the competitions that they are playing in. Of course that is why you have a big squad but if you want to compete at the highest level these are the numbers of games that you have to go through.

There will be other teams having to do the same and it is just can they keep the squad healthy and bring new talent into that to freshen it up. It is going to be difficult but I am sure they will manage.
