Pundit issues ‘incredible’ Liverpool claim after new Uefa row
Frank McAvennie has told Liverpool to “get on with it” against Real Madrid.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic and West Ham striker claimed Reds supporters will copy the Hoops and head to Madrid despite the lack of tickets available.
The Merseysiders have been given just 1800 tickets for the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie at the Bernabeu in March.
According to the Athletic (6 December), the Reds have contacted both UEFA and Real Madrid to complain about the figure saying it is “significantly less than expected”.
The Spanish giants have taken the decision in response to the ongoing redevelopment of the stadium.
However, UEFA’s regulations state that an away team is entitled to at least five per cent of seats in a stadium and even at a reduced capacity at the Bernabeu, Liverpool fans should be entitled to around 3,000 tickets.
Celtic faced the same problem when the took on the La Liga giants in their final group game of the Champions League, suffering a 5-1 defeat in Madrid.
When asked if the lack of fans will be a big hindrance to Liverpool, McAvennie told Football Insider: “You have just got to get on with it.

“There were 10,000 fans in Madrid for 1,800 tickets when Celtic played. It was incredible and Liverpool will do the same.
“It is like a building site in Madrid. It is not the best place but the players will go there and get on the pitch and do their job. It will be a battle of wits between the two managers.“
