Pundit issues Leeds verdict after ‘really surprising’ Brenden Aaronson development

It would be a “blow” if Leeds United finish the January transfer window without making a senior signing.

That’s according to former Whites stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about his former side’s lack of incomings.

Leeds are yet to sign a senior player this month but have seen bids for Red Bulls Salzburg star Brenden Aaronson rejected.

This comes despite a first half of the season that was marred by injuries and Covid outbreaks.

In recent weeks, the Whites have been forced to name inexperienced youngsters on their bench to make up the numbers.

As a result, Kenny thought Leeds would be in the market for new players and is surprised by the lack of incoming transfer activity.

“It’s really surprising to me,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“How often have we talked about Leeds needing new faces in? They have struggled this season.

“The squad was never that big to begin with. It was in need of a few fresh faces.

“It looks like Leeds have only really tried to sign one player this month, which is odd.

“I don’t get it. The money is there, why aren’t Leeds looking to strengthen?

“I know Bielsa is quite particular about these things but look at some of the teams around Leeds.

“Newcastle could fly up the table with their signings so Leeds need to be careful.

“I think it would be a blow if no one arrived.”

The Whites sit 15th in the Premier League after pulling away from the relegation zone.

They now sit seven points off 18th-placed Newcastle United.
