Pundit issues Loris Karius claim after Newcastle United twist – ‘you do not want to see this…’

Alan Hutton has insisted Loris Karius will be “feeling the pressure” at Newcastle United this week.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender backed Karius to rise to the challenge of featuring for Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final at the weekend.

The Magpies signed the 29-year-old on a free contract back in September but is yet to feature for the side.

But Eddie Howe has been left with no choice but to bring Karius into the team after Nick Pope was sent off and suspended for the final against Man United.

Second choice keeper Martin Dubravka is cup-tied after spending the early part of the season on loan at United and Karl Darlow was recently sent on loan to Hull City.

The former Liverpool shot-stopper made two bad errors in Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat in the Champions League final back in 2018 and didn’t feature for Jurgen Klopp’s side again.

But Hutton is hopeful Karius has put those mistakes behind him and is ready to turn up for Eddie Howe.

Time will tell but talk about instant pressure on you,” he told Football Insider.

We know he has not played in a long time, we know what happened.

He has made high profile errors in the past, is that going to play on his mind? You hope not, you hope that he is mentally strong and you hope that he has got over that.

That is what you want to see, you do not want to see players making mistakes. But I am sure he will be feeling a bit of pressure this week.
