Pundit issues Man United transformation claim after £151m Casemiro update
Noel Whelan has suggested the mega-money signing of Casemiro will not cause any significant upturn in fortunes at Man United.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 30-year-old could quickly regret moving to Old Trafford if results don’t go their way.
According to The Athletic (18 August), Man United are close to signing Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro in a deal which could be worth €70million (£59.5million) if all clauses and conditions are met.
The report claims the Brazil star will earn a weekly wage of around £350,000-a-week – and has agreed to a four-year deal with the option of an extra year.
That means Man United could end up paying up to £150.5million for Casemiro – who has won five Champions League titles with Los Blancos.
The Red Devils have endured their worst start to a top-flight campaign in 101 years and have lost seven consecutive away fixtures in the Premier League.
Whelan suggested Casemiro’s arrival will not fix the lack of confidence and harmony at Old Trafford.
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “There are no concerns about his age, for me.
“He’s won everything at Real Madrid and in Spain, he’s a really good, experienced player.
“My concern is, he’s had this success playing as part of a confident team – and a team who have a togetherness about them.
“He’s got the pedigree, there’s no doubt about it. He’s a quality player.

“I’m just worried about him having a Cristiano Ronaldo moment – losing a couple of games and thinking ‘what have I just done?’
“There are a lot of unhappy and not confident players at Man United right now. Is one player going to fix that? Not really.”
