Pundit issues ‘massive’ Fernandes claim after Man United reveal in last 24 hours

Bruno Fernandes is under “massive scrutiny” at Man United, according to Paul Robinson.

The former Tottenham and England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 27-year-old has “gone off the boil” but backed him to return to his best “very soon”.

Fernandes has contributed just one goal and one assist in his previous eight Premier League fixtures for the Red Devils.

However, no player in the Premier League has created more chances than the Portugal international this season. (Man United)

United were scheduled to play Brentford tonight but the game has been postponed due to a Covid outbreak at Carrington.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Fernandes’ form, Robinson said: “He’s gone off the boil in recent weeks.

“I think it’s been difficult for everyone at Manchester United though given the managerial situation. The team has defended so poorly at times.

“Fernandes looks like he is almost trying too hard at the moment. It is always difficult when you are struggling for a bit of form.

“At Manchester United, things are expected of you. The scrutiny is massive because of the size of the club. If you are one of, if not the best, player at the club and you are not excelling people are going to question you.

“United cannot afford for Fernandes to not perform, especially when the players around him aren’t but I don’t expect him to struggle for any length of time. He fits into Rangnick’s new system so I expect his form to pick up very soon.”
