Pundit issues ‘massive’ Kieran Tierney claim after journalist’s Arsenal update

Frank McAvennie has claimed Arsenal will not want to “cut their losses” with Kieran Tierney despite his injury problems.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham and Scotland striker said Tierney has “secured his future” at the Emirates.

According to The Athletic‘s James McNicholas (26 July), the 25-year-old’s injury situation is unclear.

The defender suffered a knee injury in April which ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

The Scotland international returned to action in Arsenal’s pre-season friendly against FC Nurnberg where he suffered a knock.

It is said to be unclear when Tierney could return to action.

When asked if he thought Arsenal should cut their losses on the defender, McAvennie told Football Insider: “I don’t think they’ll cut their losses, no chance.

When he’s fit he’s the best they’ve got. He’s been linked with Real Madrid. I just think when he’s playing he’s by far the best, I don’t see a better left-back than him.

He flies into tackles no matter what his problem with his knee is which might be the problem.

But he’s one of those people who just loves playing the game. He absolutely adores playing football.

Moving to Arsenal he’s secured his future. It’s a big statement to go down to Arsenal and be one of their best players. That’s a huge statement and he did that.

I’ve got nothing but praise for Kieran because he’s such a good pro. When he gets fit he’s the best in the business so I think they’ll give him more time.
