Pundit issues ‘massive’ Matt O’Riley verdict after £20m Celtic update
Alan Hutton has claimed letting go of Matt O’Riley would be a “massive loss” for Celtic.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers defender said the Hoops will want more than £20million for the 21-year-old.
O’Riley started the Bhoys’ 9-0 win over Dundee United on Sunday (28 August).
He provided assists for two of the goals.
According to ESPN (26 August), the Denmark youth international has attracted interest from the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal.
A bid in the region of £15million to £20million would be needed to tempt the Parkhead club.
The midfielder joined the Celtic from MK Dons in January for £1.5million.
He currently has four years left on his contract at the Glasgow club.
When asked if an offer of £20m could turn Ange Postecoglou’s head before the transfer window closes tomorrow night, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think he’s such a quality player and he’s gone from strength to strength, I think it would be a massive loss.
“I don’t see it happening. I think it’s too big a deal for it to be done in one day. I think he’s only going to get better and I think they’ll want to hold on to him.

“Obviously the lure of playing in the Champions League this year, some of the ties that they’re going to be playing in, I think he’ll want to be part of that so I don’t see it happening this year.
“He’s obviously got a lot of time on his side. I think if he keeps progressing the way he is Celtic will want more than that because he’s becoming a fine player at this moment in time.“
