Pundit issues ‘one hell of a’ claim about Antonio Conte after ‘huge’ Tottenham development

Antonio Conte could end the Tottenham trophy drought next season if he is backed this summer.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider

Tottenham will play Champions League football next season after securing fourth spot with a 5-0 win over Norwich on Sunday (22 May).

Spurs were ninth when Conte took over in early November and he has already shaped the squad in his image.

He has successfully implemented his go-to five at the back defence system that won him two trophies at Chelsea.

McAvennie claims the Italian can do the same at Spurs if he is backed.

“Conte has done one hell of a job getting them into the Champions League, it’s huge,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“The next step is to make sure he gets what he wants. They finally have the right manager.

“Now he needs his own players in. It feels like there is something happening at Tottenham.

“The signings he made in January were excellent so if you get some more of those guys in then they will look even better.

“It feels like there is a platform there now but we have said that in the past about this club.

“They need to get it right because if they were ever going to end this trophy drought, it’s now. It’s been long enough.”

Tottenham’s last trophy success came in the League Cup during the 2007-08 season.

Conte’s last title came when he won the 2020-21 Seria A with Inter Milan.
