Pundit issues stinging cash claim after Liverpool source’s reveal – ‘it’s a laughing stock, there’s so much money’
Frank McAvennie has slammed “ridiculous” claims that clubs Liverpool could re-join the Super League.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker claimed new versions of the competition “won’t work” because fans will not allow it.
On 18 January, Football Insider revealed that the organisers of the competition have pledged that the Reds could more than double the money they would earn from the Champions League if they re-join the project.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were one of six Premier League teams to withdraw from the project in April 2021 amid fan backlash.
The organisers of the competition A22 Sports Management have claimed that the total pot for the competition could reach £4billion, double the figure Uefa recorded for the 2020-21 Champions League season.
The Reds’ Super League fate is likely to hinge on whether an independent regulator has the power to veto attempts by English clubs to join up.
McAvennie insisted Premier League clubs won’t be swayed by the news.
“I do not think it is going to work,” he told Football Insider.
“The fans will not accept it. How can you be part of a tournament where it does not matter how badly you play? It is ridiculous.

“The whole thing is a laughing stock. There is so much money in English football and in the Premier League I do not know why they are looking for more.
“They have got a great product. Fans do not want anyone messing with the game and we definitely do not need it.“
