Pundit issues West Ham ‘travesty’ claim after source’s David Moyes update

David Moyes should be under no threat of the sack despite a poor start to the season from his West Ham side.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hammers boss’ future.

After back-to-back seasons finishing in the European places, the Irons have struggled this term and finished the first part of the season down in 16th place, just a point above the relegation zone.

The Irons had a busy summer transfer window, investing over £150million on players including Gianluca Scamacca, Lucas Paqueta, Nayef Ageurd, Maxel Cornet, Thilo Kehrer and Flynn Downes.

Sources told Football Insider on 6 December that there is tension between Moyes and David Sullivan over transfers and that has led to new question marks internally over the manager’s job.

McManus insists Moyes should be in no danger of losing his job.

“What David Moyes has done at that club is nothing short of incredible,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“Let’s not forget they were in a European semi-final last season. Two years ago they were relegation favourites and they finished in the European places.

“Then they spent no money and he managed to do it again. Now they have finally spent money it is still working out.

“The players haven’t quite gelled yet. But they have all been working with each other throughout the World Cup break.

“I think they will be considerably better in the second half of the season. He should not be under pressure, what he has done for that club is ridiculous.

“No one else could have done it. It would be a travesty if he isn’t there at the end of the season.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has tipped an “auction” for West Ham as the “deal of the century” is cited.
