Pundit issues ‘wonderful’ Kieran Tierney claim after new Arsenal development

Frank McAvennie has claimed that Kieran Tierney is a “wonderful” player and “born winner” – and there is “no way” Arsenal will keep him on the bench if he is fully fit.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham and Scotland striker said Mikel Arteta could play Oleksandr Zinchenko and Tierney together.

Tierney returned to the Gunners’ starting XI on Saturday (27 August).

As reported by Football.London (29 August), Zinchenko suffered a slight sprain to his left knee in training.

The Ukraine international was left out of Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Fulham as a “precaution”.

The 25-year-old had started every game of the season for Arteta’s side before Saturday.

When asked if Tierney will be a mainstay in the starting XI if he’s fully fit, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Yes,

“There’s not a better left-back. Zinchenko isn’t a left-back, he’s a midfield player. I think the two of them could work together if they play that formation.

I think Kieran Tierney is a winner. Zinchenko and [Gabriel] Jesus are winners. They’ve brought them in to this Arsenal team and that’s a wonderful thing to have in your dressing room when you’ve got born winners and they’ve given Arsenal a push.

Arsenal

No way can I see any team without Kieran Tierney starting when he’s fully fit, no matter how good Zinchenko is doing. He can play left-back if Tierney gets injured but I’m hoping he stays injury free because he’s a great talent.

I would hate to play against Arsenal with Zinchenko and Tierney in the one team.
