Pundit lambasts ‘cheap’ Tottenham amid ‘big’ Daniel Levy development
Tottenham fans are right to blame Daniel Levy and ENIC for the club’s lack of progress in recent years.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the atmosphere at Spurs’ last home game.
Large sections of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium turned on Levy and ENIC during their side’s 2-0 loss to Aston Villa on Sunday (1 January).
Fans chanted “get out of our club” as Antonio Conte’s side failed to lay a glove on Villa.
McManus understands the fans’ frustrations.
“I think they are right to have a go at the board,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“They have built a fantastic stadium and the financial side of Tottenham is always healthy. There is always money there but it’s how they spend it.
“The transfers they have made, are they really that good? They have needed a big money centre-half for a while now and they loaned Clement Lenglet.
“The fans can see that he isn’t what they need and it looks like the club just didn’t want to spend, they took the cheap option. They get the big decisions wrong. You look at the decisions they made with managers recently.
“Sacking Mourinho before the cup final, hiring Nuno, these are all things the Spurs fans knew were bad ideas at the time.
“You look at their rivals who are getting everything right and it must be so frustrating. Conte is doing his best but you can understand the criticism for him too.
“Unfortunately for the fans Daniel Levy doesn’t care, it’s happened before and it will happen again.”

Spurs sit fifth in the Premier League after beating Crystal Palace 4-0 on Wednesday (4 January).
They are next in action against Portsmouth in the FA Cup on Saturday (7 January).
