Pundit lambasts ‘criminal’ Keane after ‘shocking’ Everton reveal

Paul Robinson has slammed Everton defender Michael Keane for his “bad” decision-making.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper said the Toffees’ defending against Watford was “shocking” and “criminal” at times.

Everton conceded four goals in the final 15 minutes of Saturday’s 5-2 loss at Goodison Park.

Speaking to club media after the loss, Benitez bemoaned his side’s mistakes and wastefulness in possession.

When asked by Football Insider about what went wrong on Merseyside, Robinson said: “Michael Keane made a lot of bad decisions in the game.

“He looked really exposed at times.

“Defensively, Everton looked shocking. You couldn’t say that about them in previous games this season. I saw them play at Elland Road and I was really impressed.

“It is criminal to concede goals from players unmarked at set plays. You work weekly on your set plays. It is something that had to be put right on the training ground.

“I think they lack leaders in that back four. They need someone to organise back there.”

Speaking after the loss, Benitez said: “When you score the second goal and are winning, you have to be more compact and better organised.

“We made mistake after mistake and gave the ball away and allowed them too much time on the ball and they had the space to play on the counter-attack.”
