Pundit lambasts Man United after ‘criminal’ Lisandro Matinez decision

Lisandro Martinez is not suited to Premier League football and should not have started for Man United against Brighton.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Man United announced the signing of Ajax defender Martinez, 24, on 28 July.

He made his debut on Sunday (7 August)as the Red Devils lost 2-1 to Brighton at Old Trafford.

Martinez struggled to contain Danny Welbeck and was lucky to not give away a penalty in the second half.

Wenham couldn’t believe how poorly Martinez measured up compared to Welback.

“I saw a tweet from stats people on Twitter earlier, no offence to them but they were trying to perceive that Martinez had this great debut,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Anyone who knows about football will tell you Danny Welbeck bullied him. This is a Danny Welbeck who was let go by Man United.

“He was at Watford a few years ago doing nothing. He was semi-retired, yet he is up at Old Trafford leading the line and bullying this centre-half who does not look suited for the Premier League.

“Raphael Varane is on the bench, it’s a criminal decision.”

Martinez joined Ajax in May 2019 and helped the club win four major honours.

The versatile defender has made seven appearances for Argentina after making his international debut on 22 March 2019.
