Pundit lambasts Man United stars after ’embarrassing’ Erik ten Hag leaks

Noel Whelan has insisted it is “worrying” to see the “embarrassing” behind-the-scenes leaks continue at Man United despite the change in manager.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed details of the new regime should remain “in-house” – between Erik ten Hag and his playing staff.

As per the Daily Mirror (7 July), Ten Hag has introduced five “commandments” at Man United as he looks to stamp his authority on his new players.

The report claims stars have been banned from drinking alcohol during gameweeks, have been told not to use personal chefs – and will have their BMI checked by the club on a monthly basis.

Former Man United managers Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had their tenures undermined by behind-the-scenes leaks.

Incoming club CEO Richard Arnold has hinted that the persons responsible for leaking sensitive information to the press have since left the club.

Whelan questioned why Man City and Liverpool don’t seem to suffer similar problems.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “It is a worry.

“It’s embarrassing to see this kind of thing coming out. It should be between the players or staff, in-house.

“These kinds of demands from the manager – that should stay between him and the players.

“How it’s getting out like this again, I don’t know. It looks really amateurish.

“You don’t see it happening at Liverpool, you don’t see it happening at Man City. But it always seems to happen at Man United at the moment.”
