Agbonlahor lambasts Richarlison amid latest Tottenham controversy – ‘you can’t do that’

Richarlison should not have showboated as Tottenham beat Nottingham Forest last weekend (27 August).

That’s according to former Aston Villa hitman Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Brazilian’s recent antics.

Richarlison was wiped out by Brennan Johnson after a moment of showboating in the second half.

The winger juggled the ball in Forest’s half under little pressure from the opposition defence.

Johnson then clattered into the Brazilian after he played a one-two with one of his teammates as a free-kick and yellow card were awarded.

“I don’t like it,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“If I was on that pitch I would have done exactly the same. You can’t do that. There was a clip of Diaz doing it and Thierry Henry used to do it back in the day.

“But they were running with the ball and keeping it up while they were attacking. That’s fine for me, if you are trying to score a goal.

“That’s down to the opposition to stop you doing that. If you are trying to take the mickey and you aren’t trying to score, I think that’s what people don’t like.

“If he was put through on goal and did it, then that’s fine. He knew what he was doing, he was trying to completely mug off the Forest team.

“He got what he deserved. If you are two or three goals up and you’re in on goal and you want to do a trick, or if it’s a pre-season game, that’s fine.”

Richarlison was making his third appearance as a sub for Spurs against Forest and recorded his first assist.

The Brazil international moved to the north London club from Everton this summer in a deal that could be worth up to £60million.

In other news, one Tottenham expert can’t believe this ‘bizarre’ thing he’s just heard from fans.
