Pundit lauds Mikel Arteta amid ‘huge’ Arsenal claim

Frank McAvennie has hailed Mikel Arteta for his part in Leandro Trossard’s success at Arsenal.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said the Gunners couldn’t have brought in anyone who would be performing better in the side.

The 28-year-old joined the Emirates from Brighton in January and has made 12 appearances for the club so far.

The Belgium international has scored one goal and provided six assists since his winter arrival.

As relayed by Opta (19 March), Trossard has provided twice as many assists as any other player in the Premier League, despite only joining in January.

The winger also has provided the same amount of assists in his 10 league games with Arsenal as Man United’s Bruno Fernandes has provided this season.

McAvennie was full of praise for Arteta for bringing Trossard to Arsenal.

Arteta is a very intelligent man, he has learnt under Pep and he must have seen something because nobody else saw it,” he told Football Insider.

It has worked. The first thing he did was bring in two winners and the difference between somebody that has won something and somebody that has not is huge. You cannot buy the confidence of winning something.

Then Trossard has come in and he is finding the players that are making the runs around him.

There is no one they could have brought in that would have done any better. But credit has to go to the manager.
