Pundit lauds ‘phenomenal’ Eddie Howe as Newcastle United deal agreed

Eddie Howe has done a “phenomenal” job at Newcastle United and is deserving of a new contract.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On Friday (5 August) Newcastle announced Howe, 44, has signed a new “long-term” deal with the club.

The Toon manager’s previous terms were due to expire in the summer of 2024.

Howe turned Newcastle’s fortunes around completely after taking the reigns in November, guiding the club to an 11th-place finish in the 2021-22 Premier League.

“Eddie Howe has done a phenomenal job at Newcastle,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“When he took over he lost Wilson to injury straight away. Trippier then came in and he went out injured after three games.

“He has reinvented as not just a footballer but a very good footballer in a new position. Also, he has improved some of the other players at the club to no end.

“He has done a phenomenal job and I really like the recruitment this summer. Pope and Matt target are great deals.

“Howe has been very good in the window so far, I can’t think of any bad signings Newcastle have made under him.

“He is getting the best out of the players and he started off with a positive reuslt and a clean sheet.

“It’s a well-deserved contract and I’m really pleased to see a young English manager doing well at a big club like Newcastle.”
