Pundit ‘laughing’ at Liverpool star Andy Robertson after confirmed news – ‘he should know better’
Frank McAvennie has claimed Andy Robertson “should have known better” than to touch the assistant referee when Liverpool faced Arsenal last weekend (9 April).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said he “couldn’t stop laughing” at the incident and claimed assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis reacted like a player when Robertson tried to confront him.
As shown on Sky Sports (11 April), Hatzidakis was approached by Robertson during half time of the 2-2 draw at Anfield and the official appeared to elbow the Reds defender in the face.
The Reds defender was shown a yellow card for his involvement in the altercation.
The official was initially suspended whilst the FA carried out an investigation but have now ruled that no action will be taken against Hatzidakis.
McAvennie insisted Robertson should have been more careful but understood the player’s actions.
“You are not allowed to touch the officials, I get that, but he got an elbow to the chin for his troubles,” he told Football Insider.
“I just could not stop laughing when I saw it.

“He tried to grab him as if to say ‘listen to me’. They treat you like school boys and they just ignore you and it is annoying. Andy should have known better.
“You are not allowed to touch a referee but they are not allowed to elbow a player. He reacted like a centre-half or a centre-forward when somebody tries to touch you, you elbow them. It was hilarious.“
