Pundit: Liverpool crushed by ‘horrible news’ – ‘they will suffer this season’
Liverpool will be heavily impacted for the rest of the season after their summer transfer window embarrassment.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie believes that the Reds have been damaged by Chelsea’s double hijack of Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo.
Chelsea had offered around £55m for Lavia, who has been the subject of three failed bids from Liverpool worth up to £48m, despite also completing a British-record deal for Moises Caicedo in a deal worth up to £115m.
The final terms of the deal were being negotiated on Saturday evening after they agreed to improve on Liverpool’s £111m offer that was accepted by Brighton on Thursday.
With Chelsea stealing both of Liverpool’s midfield targets McAvennie believes that is a major blow for the Reds.
“Liverpool will suffer this season after losing on both players, it’s horrible news for them,” he told Football Insider.
“Liverpool will be gutted because they’ve got a lot of good players at the club, but they need players to walk in the team, and they need a whole new midfield.
“Chelsea have impacted their season on a major scale after signing both Caicedo and Lavia.

“I remember not so long ago I couldn’t see anyone not want to join Liverpool when they came calling, as they had won the Premier League, the Champions League, and looked unbeatable under Jurgen Klopp.
“I think that Klopp is a hell of a good manager, but the power of Chelsea is just as strong, and now they are a major threat after looking totally hopeless last season. ”
