Pundit ‘livid’ after analysing official footage of Leeds United controversy – ‘I can’t believe it’

It was “harsh” for Rob Jones to send off Jesse Marsch as his Leeds United side lost 5-2 to Brentford on Saturday (3 September).

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Leeds were denied a penalty in the second half after Aaron Hickey pulled down Crysencio Summerville on the edge of the penalty area.

The decision promoted n angry response from Marsch, who was subsequently sent to the stands for the remainder of the game.

After the match, Marsch spoke to Sky Sports and suggested he would try to organise a meeting with Premier League referees.

Wenham was left baffled by the events at Brentford.

“I can’t believe Jesse Marsch got sent off,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Summerville was clearly, clear as day, having his shirt pulled and the referee hasn’t given it. It looked like it might have been inside the box.

“To not give it and then not even check it as well. Then Marsch gets sent off for complaining about a blatant error.

“It’s ridiculous, it was very, very harsh on Leeds I have to say. You would be livid if that was your club.

“It’s been a really bad weekend for referees and you can understand why Marsch was so annoyed.”

Leeds are next in action against Nottingham Forest next Monday (12 September).

The Whites currently lie 9th in the Premier League.
