Pundit makes ‘brutal’ claim after latest Newcastle bust-up reported

Kevin Campbell is adamant Newcastle United stars Jamaal Lascelles and Isaac Hayden had a bust-up in the tunnel because of their performance on the pitch.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said the Premier League is “relentless” and “brutal” if you can’t get the basics right.

According to the Daily Mail‘s Craig Hope (18th October), Lascelles and Hayden had to be pulled apart by staff after Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to Spurs.

The pair reportedly “went head-to-head” and “exchanged shoves” in the tunnel area.

It is the latest in a series of behind-the-scenes bust-ups at Newcastle, with manager Steve Bruce and his assistant Graeme Jones personally involved in physical rows with players.

The Magpies have failed to register a win in their nine appearances across all competitions this season.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the news, Campbell said: “It is normal for players to have barney.

“It is more concerning that it was leaked in such a manner.

“I know emotions were running high because of the takeover but I don’t think that was anything to do with it. Players have bust-ups because of performances on the pitch.

“Newcastle’s problem is they can’t do the basics well. The Premier League is relentless. It’s brutal to you if you can’t get the basics of right, especially in defence.”

Speaking to the BBC after the defeat, manager Steve Bruce said: “For a few times this season, we have got off to a blistering start but unfortunately sat deep and did not do enough defensively fort that crucial period.

“A difficult second half, we huffed and puffed but it was too easy for them. They are a very good side.”

In other news, a pundit has claimed Newcastle could appoint an ‘incredible’ director of football after a new update from Jim White.
