Pundit makes 'huge' Ferguson claim amid major Everton manager update
Noel Whelan has insisted Duncan Ferguson has a “huge” role to play under any new manager at Everton.
The former Premier League striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Toffees need to ensure the 49-year-old remains as part of the backroom team at Goodison Park.
As revealed by Football Insider on Thursday (June 17th), Ferguson will be offered a key role on the prospective coaching staff of Rafael Benitez.
Whelan insisted any manager should keep Ferguson on board.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I don’t think there’s any way you can get rid of Duncan Ferguson. He’s huge, whoever’s the manager, and if Rafa gets it.

“I mean, I certainly wouldn’t want to tell him to leave! I think it’s a given he will decide when he leaves Everton.
“You’ve got somebody with that experience, he’s been at the club so long, he knows the club inside out, got that rapport with the fans and that drive and passion still.
“That is only an added benefit to whatever manager comes, to have him by your side. You need help and no better than Duncan Ferguson, who knows the club inside out.
“He would be a huge help to any manager. He seems a man that will get on well with everybody. He’ll be very honest and that’s what you want with the man next to you.
“You don’t want a yes man. He will say what he needs to say. I think that’s the way you get the best relationship and the best out of the players.
“Two heads are better than one. He knows everything about the players that are already there. He can express and get that across to whatever manager comes in.”
