Pundit makes Mason Mount quit claim after Chelsea talks update

Alan Hutton has suggested Mason Mount could quit Chelsea if they cannot agree on wages.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Mount is “not helping” his case with some of the recent performances he has put in.

According to the Daily Mail (4 February), talks over a new contract were halted after the 24-year-old rejected an offer feeling it was below what other senior players and new signings are earning at Stanford Bridge.

The midfielder has 18 months left on his contract and is said to want to triple his £80,000-per-week wages.

It is believed the club are offering him significantly less than what they are paying new recruits such as Raheem Sterling.

When asked if Mount could quit if his demands are not met, Hutton told Football Insider:He sees himself as an integral part of that team.

Some of the players that are coming in and the wages that they are on, he feels that he should be up there.

He is not helping himself with the performances he is putting in. If he is playing at a high level, scoring goals and is the first name on the teamsheet then they are more likely to give him it.

It is possibly something that he will look at in the summer. Does he see himself moving away from there? The way they are spending, is he going to be a regular starter? These are all things that he is going to have to think about.

He is a Chelsea boy, he will want to stay there. He probably just feels that he deserves to be in the bracket of the top earners. If they can’t find a solution for it then he might look elsewhere.
