Pundit makes ‘massive’ Newcastle claim after Jim White’s director of football update today

Paul Robinson has claimed “it is massively important” Newcastle United install a director of football before appointing a manager.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one predicts problems will arise if the new regime appoint the senior positions in the opposite order.

As this site revealed on October 8th, the Magpies new owners plan to shake up the club’s recruitment set up.

A director of football is expected to be appointed, with Jason Wilcox, Ralf Rangnick, Michael Edwards and Luis Campos all linked with the role.

Speaking on talkSPORT (18th October), Jim White revealed he contacted Luis Campos to assess whether he was interested in the position.

Intriguingly, White said the former sporting director of Lille and AS Monaco declined to comment on the situation.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if a sporting director should be the priority at St. James’ Park, Robinson said:

“I think it’s massively important to get the sporting director in first.

“A lot of managers don’t like working with sporting directors who came in after them. They feel it undermines their position at the club.

“If the sporting director is already there, the manager knows what he is getting into. He can also rest easy knowing that the sporting director wants him there.”

White told talkSPORT: “Campos told me just before we came on air that he does not want to make any comment on the situation at Newcastle United.

“It suggests to me… [That we’ll have to] keep an eye on this.”

In other news, Campbell has claimed a ‘phenomenal’ 41-year-old is the perfect candidate for Newcastle after source update.
