Pundit ‘over the moon’ with Leeds development after Ryan Kent reveal at Rangers
Alan Hutton has admitted he is “over the moon” Leeds United signed Dan James instead of returning for Rangers winger Ryan Kent.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Ibrox star revealed he was “desperate” for the Gers star to remain past Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Leeds announced the signing of Dan James from Manchester United on Tuesday (31st August).
The Whites were in the market for a new winger this summer.
As revealed by Football Insider back in April, Leeds were keen on Rangers ace Kent but the 24-year-old chose to remain at Ibrox.
The Whites moved on from the former Liverpool man and eventually sealed a deal for James.
Hutton admitted he was fearful Leeds could come back in for Kent before their deadline-day addition.
As such, he was relieved to see James make the move to Elland Road.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Bielsa liked the likes of Ryan Kent and he was after him.
“They’ve (Kent and James) got similar traits. For him to come in with that pace and work ethic. He can score goals, he can assist.
“I was desperate for Kent to stay. I know he’s been a little bit up and down but he’s a fantastic player.
“He’s a key figure in that Rangers team. Over the moon that he’s stayed.”

Kent has played seven times across all competitions for Rangers this season, with two assists to his name.
His contract at Ibrox is set to run until 2023.
In other news, Hutton has revealed his excitement after the latest on Rangers “rule-breaker”.
