Pundit predicts late Kane-Tottenham drama amid Man City bid update

Noel Whelan has tipped Tottenham to demand a swift resolution should Manchester City launch a late Harry Kane bid.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Lilywhites would want to replace the 27-year-old before the window slams shut.

Kane made his first appearance of the season for Tottenham on Sunday, replacing Heung-min Son on 71 minutes in a 1-0 away win over Wolves.

As reported by the Daily Mail (24th August), Tottenham are confident of keeping Kane heading into the final week of the window.

It is said City tabled a bid worth an initial £75million plus £25million in add-ons.

They are reportedly set to return with a bid before next week’s deadline (31st August).

However, Whelan suggested Spurs would not welcome any last-minute offers.

“I don’t think the saga’s over,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“I’ll be very surprised if City don’t come back with a bid.

“It’s out of Harry Kane’s hands. He’s got three years left on a contract that he signed, and if they don’t want to sell him, they don’t have to.

“He’s a Tottenham player, and City will have to come up with the money to prise him away.

“If Spurs are to sell and replace Kane, the deal is going to have to be wrapped up pretty quickly with the window dwindling down.”

Kane has cemented his place in Spurs folklore, scoring 166 league goals for the club.

Spurs

All eyes are on Kane, with Tottenham facing a home double header against Pacos de Ferreira and Watford this week.

The Lilywhites currently trail 1-0 on aggregate to the Portuguese side.

In other news, this pundit has backed another club to gazump City in the chase for Kane.
