Pundit: Salah worth every penny of record-breaking Liverpool contract as source reveals all

Mohamed Salah would be worth every penny of a new £82million Liverpool contract, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England full-back suggested Liverpool would have to pay far more if they were forced to replace their talisman.

A Liverpool source told Football Insider (October 14) FSG want to wrap up a new deal for Salah before the January transfer window.

They are preparing a club-record package worth £350,000-a-week including bonuses.

Salah wants to commit his future until 2026 so a new deal would be worth £82m over the entirety of the contract.

He is currently under contract at Anfield until the summer of 2023.

“He’s a fantastic player, he’s worth it,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“If that’s the going rate, that’s the going rate. If they were to lose Mo Salah how much does it cost to replace him?

“You’ve got to get a transfer in of £60million, £70million then you’ve got to give them £150,000, £200,000-a-week. You’ve got to look at the whole package. There are the bonuses and signing-on fees too.

“It may well put a few noses out of joint but if you’re the manager or the sporting director and says something to you, you can say ‘Hang on, he’s better than you and a lot better than you. He’s worth £100million so come back when you’re worth near that’.

“Just because he’s in the team and doing the same job, every business in the lad has directors on different salaries because they do different jobs and perform differently.”
