Pundit salutes GSB after official statement West Ham fans will love
Noel Whelan has hailed the West Ham board for pushing to expand the London Stadium’s matchday capacity.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker insisted the Hammers are heading in the right direction under the stewardship of David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady
The Irons announced on Wednesday (27th October) they have received planning permission to welcome an extra 2,500 fans for their home games.
The official capacity will now be 62,500.
However, in their statement, the Irons confirmed they are planning to reach the stadium’s full capacity in future.
That would see the former Olympic Stadium hold near to 67,000 supporters.
Whelan admitted the move away from Upton Park took some getting used to.
However, he suggested supporters would be “rubbing their hands together” with the latest developments.
“I think everybody was sad when they left Upton Park,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“The London Stadium wasn’t built for football, people said, but they’ve changed it. They’ve adapted to it.
“People have got used to it, the players have got used to it now. They’re putting bums on seats. More importantly, they’re putting in the performances that makes them attractive to go and watch.

“People are excited about West Ham. Everything seems to be going in a really good direction, there’s a really good feel factor about that football club right now.
“West Ham fans will be rubbing their hands with the way things have gone. The money that has been invested into the club by the owners, everything looks in a really good place at West Ham at the minute.”
