Pundit shares ‘massive’ Bruno Guimaraes claim after Newcastle United transfer reveal

Noel Whelan has insisted Bruno Guimaraes will help Newcastle break into the Premier League’s top six amid possible interest from Man City.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, hailed the midfield star as a “massive bargain” after his £38million move from Lyon.

According to the Daily Mail (9 October), Man City pose the most “realistic danger” if Newcastle are to lose Guimaraes in coming transfer windows.

The report claims the Magpies are likely to open contract talks over an improved deal despite the 24-year-old only joining the club in January.

Brazil international Guimaraes was the subject of interest from Real Madrid during the summer window.

The midfielder has quickly dismissed talk of a potential St James’ Park exit, insisting he wants to be a “legend” at Newcastle after scoring a brace against Brentford on Saturday (8 October).

Whelan insisted he “gets a buzz out of pleasing” the Magpies fans.

When asked if Guimaraes could help propel Newcastle into the top six, he told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Absolutely.

“He does everything. He’s aggressive, works hard, and does the defensive side of the game.

“But what he loves is getting into the box and scoring goals. You can see that. He’s got the desire to score goals, he gets a buzz out of pleasing the fans.

“He’s got a really good strike on him, too. We saw that with his second goal.

“He’s a midfielder who can do everything. For £38million, considering what you see other sides pay – he has been a massive bargain.

“He is one of their most important players already.”
