Pundit shares ‘massive’ Jordan Henderson claim after what he’s seen at Liverpool

Jordan Henderson deserves more respect for the job he does as a senior player for both Liverpool and England.

That’s according to former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the midfielder’s most recent performance.

Henderson, 32, started as England beat Wales 3-0 on Monday (28 November).

This was his first start at the World Cup as he replaced Mason Mount in the starting XI.

Whelan was blown away by Henderson’s performance.

“I think when you come into massive tournaments like World Cups and European Championships, I don’t think you can ever have enough experience in your side,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.

“You need leaders. He is a massive figure at Liverpool but he’s a massive figure with England as well. Everyone seems to look up to him and respect him, not just as a footballer but in the way he conducts himself off the pitch too.

“He seems to be one of the leading players who is always at the forefront of discussions when representing Liverpool and England.

“His footballing ability speaks for itself. He has a real intelligence about his game. A calmness that projects onto everybody when he is on the pitch.

“We have a very talented group of midfielders at this World Cup and I think people forget the importance of Henderson to both England and Liverpool.

Liverpool

“When Liverpool have gone through tricky times, you always see them turn to Henderson and he never lets them down.

People forget just how good he is.”
