Pundit shares ‘massive’ Newcastle United claim after Mykhaylo Mudryk update
Newcastle United are still unable to battle with top teams for in-demand players despite their newfound wealth.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ January plans.
Football Insider revealed on 11 November that Newcastle were laying the groundwork to sign Shakhtar sensation Mykhaylo Mudryk as they target an A-list left-sided star.
On 12 December, Ben Jacobs reported the attacker wants to join Arsenal, citing an interview he conducted with Mudryk back in September.
McManus claims Newcastle are still unable to compete for transfers with Arsenal despite their Saudi backing.
“Financially, Newcastle can compete with anyone, they’re massive. We know how rich those owners are,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“They are having a good season as well but they can’t offer what Arsenal are offering. Newcastle are not in Europe or in the title race.
“Arsenal are in the title race and will probably be back in the Champions League next season, that being said Newcastle could be there too.
“I just think Newcastle are one or two years behind being able to pull off these kinds of deals. They will get there, there is no doubt about that.
“I think when it comes to Mudryk Newcastle probably need to look elsewhere. It seems like he wants Arsenal and once a player’s mind is made up, that’s that.”

Mudryk has scored seven goals in 12 league games this season.
He has also been in fine form in the Champions League, scoring three in six games.
