Pundit shares ‘massive’ Pedro Neto claim after journalist’s Arsenal update

Noel Whelan has suggested Pedro Neto would struggle to get into the first-choice Arsenal lineup if he completes a move from Wolves.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 22-year-old would give the Gunners an even bigger chance at this season’s Premier League title.

According to Fabrizio Romano (23 August), Nicolas Pepe is in negotiations with OGC Nice over a loan move to the Ligue 1 club – with both Arsenal and the French side “optimistic” of a deal being reached.

The Athletic claim (22 August) that the Gunners are in talks to sign Wolves winger Neto – with the Portugal international identified as Mikel Arteta’s top target if Pepe leaves the club.

The former Braga ace has notched 11 goals and 12 assists for the Midlands club since joining in 2019.

England international winger Emile Smith Rowe is yet to start this season despite notching 11 goals last term.

Whelan hailed the strength of the Gunners’ attacking options.

He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “It’s already the strongest squad I’ve seen at Arsenal going back to the days of Henry,”

“I think Arteta has built a top-quality side, and it’s showing through with their start to the new season.

“Sometimes managers can only see the signings they need by coaching the team week in, week out. The signings aren’t always obvious to us.

“However, if they do sign another winger – it’s not clear how they’re going to get into the team right now.

“They’ll have a massive amount of choices and options. Zinchenko can play out there, too.

“Good teams are always looking out for good players, though.

“Neto would bolster their squad even more and give them an even bigger chance at the league title.”
