Pundit shares ‘massive’ title race claim after Liverpool development
Liverpool do not have a “massive” edge in the Premier League title race despite already beating Man City this season.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Reds’ chances of winning the Premier League.
Liverpool began their 2022-23 Premier League season with a 1-1 draw away at Fulham on Saturday (6 August).
Last weekend (30 July) Jurgen Klopp’s men won their first silverware of the season, beating Man City 3-1 in the Community Shield.
Kenny claims that result does not give the Reds an edge in the title race.
“It’s still so tight. If I’m honest, it’s a flip of a coin,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Just because they won that match [Community Shield] that doesn’t make them massive favourites or anything like that.
“It’s still the flip of a coin and maybe it’s just Man City because they have won four of the last five Premier Leagues.
“I won’t judge Liverpool in that game. They have to play each other twice in the season, those are the games that will decide it.
“It’s going to be exciting. It will only be Liverpool and Man City, it would be nice to get another team in there to make it interesting.
“This time next year we will be saying the same thing, Liverpool and Man City.”

Liverpool are next in action against Crystal Palace on Monday (13 August).
They will face Man City in the Premier League for the first time this season on 16 October.
