Pundit shares new Liverpool worry after record-breaking development
Alan Hutton has insisted Liverpool aren’t back to their best despite the 7-0 thrashing of Man United on Sunday (5 March).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Jurgen Klopp knows he still needs “fresh blood” in the summer.
As shown on Sky Sports (5 March), the Reds thrashed high-flying United 7-0 in the clash at Anfield on Sunday.
As relayed by OptaJoe (5 March), the victory was Liverpool’s biggest ever competitive win over the Red Devils, surpassing their previous record of 7-1 which was set back in October 1985.
But Jurgen Klopp’s side have been struggling this season.
They were put out of the FA Cup by Brighton at the end of January and face a massive battle to qualify for the Champions League quarter-final after losing 5-2 to holders Real Madrid at Anfield last month.
When asked if the victory over United will simply paper over the cracks at Liverpool, Hutton told Football Insider: “You would hope not but there is no getting away from the fact that they have not lived up to the hype that they have in previous seasons.
“But, I think they have showed as well that when it all clicks you can’t write them off. They won 7-0 at home against Man United who were a team that were flying. They had just won the Carabao Cup as well. So they have really put down a marker.

“Now, for them it is whether they can go and do it again. Can they go on a run of games where we are talking about them getting top four no problem?
“They are more than capable of it. I think Jurgen Klopp will know that he has to get fresh blood into the squad in the summer. But they have proven that on their day they can play at a high level.”
