Alan Hutton has shot down Scott Bain’s claim Eddie Howe could stop the likes of Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer from leaving Celtic this summer.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the senior pair had already made their minds up to quit after this site revealed Howe had verbally agreed to take charge at Parkhead.
Football Insider understands Edouard has set his sights on leaving Parkhead this summer regardless of who takes charge.
The French striker is heading into the final year of his contract at Parkhead and his value tumbled from £40million to just £25million in January.
As quoted by the Glasgow Times, Celtic keeper Bain suggested someone like Howe could convince wantaway players to stick around for another year or two.
However, Hutton suggested the likes of Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer had already made their minds up.
“I think he’s a big enough name, don’t get me wrong,” Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“I think he’s going to attract players in his own right, but I think there are certain players within that have already made their mind up. No matter what, they want to move on.
“I think it’s kind of been there for a long time for people to see.
“There’s been whispers of the likes of Ajer and Edouard. I don’t they’re ever going to go away, no matter who comes into the club.
“I think they see their future somewhere else. That being said, these are the type of guys that I think are going to fund the rebuild for, if it is Eddie Howe, and Celtic moving forward.”
