Pundit slams ’embarrassing’ Leeds players after Bielsa hit with ‘abuse’
Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds stars must share the blame with their manager after a thrashing at the hands of Man City.
That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider following the crushing defeat.
Leeds were hammered 7-0 by Manchester City at The Etihad on Tuesday (14 December).
The result leaves the Whites five points from the relegation places before the majority of the teams below them play their midweek games.
In his post-match presser, Bielsa admitted there were “no positives” he could take after such a humbling defeat.
McAvennie claims he saw abuse aimed at Bielsa on social media following the game but claimed the players need to take as much of the blame.
“The problem with Bielsa is he wants everything forward,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“We all loved it last season when they were winning 4-3 and 5-4 but you can’t do that against this Man City team.
“They are something else this season. You have to be able to adapt, even if that means putting 10 men behind the ball.
“Leeds aren’t the same team this season. Because of injuries they don’t have the squad to do that.
“You have to change it up sometimes, otherwise you will be ripped apart.
“So Bielsa has had abuse on social media, I saw a bit of that. I get that. But Leeds are great to watch when they are on form.

“I don’t get why he has forgotten about defending though, conceding seven is embarrassing.
“It’s unacceptable against anybody and the players have to take as much blame as the manager.”
